Here’s a
genuine TRY BEFORE YOU BUY experience,
three free exercises generated
by Story Spinner.
This is the front/pinwheel
side of Story Spinner. All you
do is turn each of the three wheels
to reveal the ingredients for
your story in the die-cut rectangles.
Here’s one
for you to try now:
- The purple
wheel gives you a phrase to
start your story. Yours is: "The day I disappeared"
- The black wheel
gives you a setting to locate
your story. Yours is: "in a blizzard"
- The red wheel
gives you a word you must include
in your story. Yours is: "Cork"
- Now, set a
timer for 10 minutes, start
with "The day I disappeared"
and write, draw, act or tell
your story. Don't forget to
set it “in a blizzard”
and use the word "cork"!
- You'll be amazed
at the results.
This
is the back/recipe side of Story
Spinner offering 18 different
writing exercise formulas called
Recipes. The recipe directions
appear in the trapezoid. Once
you dial up your recipe and read
the directions, flip over Story
Spinner to the pinwheel side to
gather your ingredients.
The
recipe you just tried is called
Meat and Potatoes because it uses
the basic Story Spinner formula
of one ingredient from each wheel.
If you’d like to buy your
very own Story Spinner (just $9.99
plus s/h) so you can have these

Here’s another recipe/exercise
for you to try before you buy.
This one is called Bunch of Baloney:
Create a story about a lie you
once told (or someone told you)
using the following ingredients:
- 1 Starter:
Your starting phrase is, "I
wished upon the star..."
- 1 Setting:
Your story should take place
“at the beach"
- 2 Words: You
must use the words SOAP OPERA and HOCKEY PUCK in your story.
- Now set a timer
for 10 minutes and write, draw,
act or tell your story. Don't
forget to write about a lie,
have a beach as your setting,
include the words 'soap opera'
and 'hockey puck' and begin
the story with the phrase, "I
wished upon the star..."
Lots of great things
in life come in threes. This page
is no exception. Here’s
a third Story Spinner exercise
for you to try:
It’s
called Slower Than Molasses: Use
one starter and write/draw using
your least dominant hand for three
minutes. Your starting phrase
is: On my 100th Birthday…
Set a timer and begin… this
one is a bit more challenging
than it seems!
Some other exercises
you’ll enjoy when
you buy
your own Story Spinner ($9.99
plus s/h) are:

Just think… if you do one exercise a day...every
day... for 10 minutes... by the
end of the year...you'll have
filled 365 pages... that's longer
than most best-sellers!!
The best way to
keep your creative momentum going
is to write every day. Here are
some tips to help you:
- Don't worry
about what you write. Just write.
- Write freely.
Write for fun. Let yourself
write junk.
- Complain for
a page if you like.
- Don't look
back at what you've written.
- If you get
stuck keep writing the same
word over and over, knowing
that more words will come.
- Don't edit.
- Don't critique,
judge, offer disclaimers or
belittle what you've written.
- Use lots of
descriptive examples.
- Write about
childhood memories.
- Use your senses
– all of them!
- Let the momentum
flow from the pen onto the paper.
Keep it going! Because the MORE
YOU WRITE, THE BETTER YOU WRITE!
